DESTINATIONS

Hines Development

Hines is a privately owned international real estate firm that has provided the highest level of quality, service and value to its clients and investors for more than 50 years. Hines is a key developer of Minneapolis’s North Loop commercial and living spaces. Working with Shea Architects, I developed a customized multi-paged, book sized brochure to help Hines secure anchor tenants for the first phase of development. In the iteration shown here, the brochure was customized for Be The Match, an organization that collects and provides bone marrow for transplant. The organization was considering a move from their Roseville, MN location: Custom maps were created to ease anxiety for employees having to change their commutes. Local amenities were touted, as was the unique and urban atmosphere of this emerging Minneapolis neighborhood.

On top of laying out the book, I created all the maps and info graphics, and extensively researched the neighborhood listings.

Chicago Field Museum Restaurant

A Minneapolis agency hired me to create restaurant brand concepts for their client, Aramark. They were bidding on the restaurant and cafeteria contract for the Chicago Field Museum and needed themed concepts for a family restaurant, a more upscale restaurant, and convenience food kiosks and packaging.

Shown here, I created the ‘Exposition Café’ theme, utilizing design and period elements from the Chicago World’s Exposition of 1893 (the museum was originally built to house the Expo’s treasures). The concept blow-out included a brand identity, wayfinding signage, snack kiosk (upper middle), packaging and food packaging, as well as interactive kiosk content to link the restaurant with the World’s Expo and the museum’s history.

The Aramark folks liked the concepts I presented so much they are using another of the presented concepts as a brand identity for their in-house catering business.

Various Site Branding Projects

Working with Shea Architects, Vetta Zelo and my Hand/Eye Clients, I have had the honor of helping create the brand identity for various destinations. Here are a number of brand marks I have designed through the years. Not all of these made the final cut, and a logo does not a brand make, but there is a lot of weight carried by these little illustration/type tie-ups.  I think these are a sharp representation of the design and conceptual skills I bring to the table. Check out The Chicago Field Museum ‘Exposition Cafe’ above, or Va Piano Vineyards to see how Hand/Eye can expand a brand from a concept to a cohesive program.
